Chelsea intensify interest for Marseille striker Loic Remy
Chelsea intensify interest for Marseille striker Loic Remy |
Blues chiefs know that manager Roberto Di Matteo needs to find a new striker in January with his attack short of options at the moment. While Torres has been netting regularly, Sturridge has been out injured for a while now and is in the last year of his contract and the club seems unsure as to whether he will sign a contract extension. In such a situation, the club will definitely need to bring in a new striker. Remy was scouted last month against Rennes and Blues scouts were present in the stands once again for OM's clash with PSG on the weekend to see the dynamic France striker in action.

El Mundo Deportivo says Romeu has now been linked with a move away from west London, with Valencia sending scouts to watch him during Spain's U-21 international against Croatia. There is a clause in Romeu's contract which allows Barcelona to buy back the midfielder for a fee of £12million. Barca could be willing to co-operate with their La Liga rivals to help bring Romeu back to Spain.

Ashley Cole Contract Stand-Off: Unfair Treatment?
Ashley Cole: Unfairly Treated? |
According to a club insider: “Mr Abramovich has a rule that anyone over 30 can only be given a one-year extension but it’s madness in Ashley’s case. Everyone knows he’s the best left-back in the world.
He trains hard, really looks after himself and can play at this level for many more years to come. There isn't a club in the world who wouldn't want Ashley on a free.” (these quotes can be found in various tabloids)

The Daily Mail says Colombian sources suggest a pre-contract agreement has already been agreed with Chelsea and the player.
"I don’t want to talk about any pre-agreements," said Dad, Radamel Snr. "I spoke to Falcao very briefly yesterday. The minimum release clause in his contract with Atletico Madrid is about 55million Euros, but Falcao doesn’t want to talk figures."

Benayoun Joins West Ham On Loan
Chelsea FC have confirmed that Yossi Benayoun has joined West Ham on loan.
The loan deal is not a season-long one, but lasts till January. West Ham will have an option of extending the loan deal till the end of the season depending on his performances, of course.
No one is surprised that Yossi has gone out on loan once again. He
didn't fit into AVB's plans last season, & it seemed pretty clear
that he wouldn't be a part of Di Matteo's plans this season either. The
former Liverpool man has struggled for first-team football ever since he
joined Chelsea, & it now seems very clear that his future lies
elsewhere.
Benayoun spent the whole of last season on loan to Arsenal, making 25 appearances & scoring 6 goals in the process. He did take part in Chelsea's pre-season tour to the US, but it was known that he wouldn't be a regular under Robbie.

Chelsea On Deadline Day
It's deadline day, the craziest day of the year for all football fans
& clubs. Clubs rush to finish any last minute deals, while fans wait
anxiously to see if their beloved club signs any new players. So far,
there are 4 major stories concerning Chelsea. They are:-
1) Andre Schurrle to Chelsea- This little saga has been going on since the beginning of the summer. Most thought the saga ended when Leverkusen rejected a bid from Chelsea in July, but certain newspapers are reporting that the deal could be back on. Schurrle, a German international who can operate either as a winger or a striker, would be a brilliant addition to any squad. Chelsea have long been in the hunt for a player who can operate efficiently both as a winger or a striker. Whether or not the deal gets done, however, remains to be seen.
2) Loic Remy to Chelsea- Admittedly a new one. The highly-rated striker was in talks with Spurs until yesterday, but the deal seems to have fallen through. Remy himself admitted as much, saying, "Yes there were discussions with Tottenham, but they came to nothing and they will not continue." The deal could cost Chelsea £15M or more, according to Mirror Football. Again, nothing has been made official just yet, but this could turn out to be a brilliant signing if it happens.
3) Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool- Again, another old story surfacing now. Liverpool have been unsuccessfully chasing Sturridge for a while, but the rumour seems to have some substance to it now. If Chelsea do indeed manage to sign Remy/Schurrle, Sturridge could move to Liverpool on loan (Liverpool want him on loan). While I will be disappointed to see him leave the club (I still rate him despite his tendency to frustrate me), I doubt the club would hang on to him if we sign a striker today.
4) Michael Essien to Arsenal- This one had me shocked, as it came from absolutely nowhere. Arsenal have made contact about a potential loan deal for the midfielder, who is yet to start a game for Chelsea so far. Whether Chelsea will accept is another matter. Despite his injury issues, he is still considered a decent player & Chelsea still consider him decent back-up, at least. I'm not ruling out a deal entirely, but let's just say I don't see much chance of it happening.
We will keep you posted on all Chelsea-related news as it happens.

Possible Chelsea departures
Possible Chelsea departures |
These two players have had much said about them over the summer, with both of them being linked with various clubs. They have both had very mixed Chelsea careers, but now it does seem time for these players to leave. Malouda has been at the club now for 5 years, and in that time he's won 3 FA Cups, 1 Premier League title and of course the Champions League last season. He was so instrumental the season we won the double, with one particular highlight being his assist for that famous Joe Cole goal in front of the Stretford End. He had limited opportunities last season with the emergence of Sturridge, and I feel that he no longer really has much value for us. He doesn't fit into our way of playing now which is to pass the ball quickly.
It's been made quite clear that Malouda's days are numbered by the fact that Bertrand has been starting on the left instead of Malouda, with perhaps the biggest nail in his coffin being in the Champions League final, when Bertrand was outstanding and really showed he could play that position well. Malouda has been one of the most frustrating players to play for Chelsea in recent memory, but if is to leave as I suspect he will, he'll be held in good steed by most Chelsea fans, as any servant of the club should be.
The other player possibly on the way out is Benayoun, who's' Chelsea career has never really got going. He was brought in in the summer transfer window of 2010 with there being many whispers that Torres would be on his way also. That didn't happen until the January window, and it was hoped that these two combined could give Torres the service he needed in order to score the goals. That didn't happen as we all know. Benayoun struggled with an injury sustained in the League Cup, and Torres struggled with a lack of service.
Last season Benayoun was on loan at Arsenal where he did score some crucial goals for them, but he really should be moved on. He's 32 like Malouda, and it's only fair to him to sell him as he won't get much game time at all with the arrivals this summer, and the emergence of Bertrand and Piazon who can play in those positions.
There's been mentions of Kakuta and Essien leaving the club also in the next few days. For me, if Kakuta was going to go it would have been as part of the Cesar deal, as he wants to go to France anyway. So maybe that deal will materialise, we'll see. He's a player who's never quite lived up to the hype, especially after the transfer embargo that was forced on Chelsea following his arrival. That's why I feel we won't let him go so easily, as he caused so much aggro.
Essien is unlikely to go, as he's a very decent utility player. Not a shadow of the player he used to be, when he made those famous drives forward, but he still has a role to play, possibly stepping in for the midweek games and when there are injuries. We won't let the bison go that easily! Also, I think he owes the club a lot after we've stuck by him for so long after two really bad knee injuries. That's another reason why he may choose to stay.
Overall though, I don't expect too many departures from the squad, as I feel there's a decent balance within the squad with a lot of quality, young and hungry players, mixed with the experienced players which any side needs to be successful. Now let's hope for our first trophy on Friday, come on you blues!

Why Chelsea Don't NEED Another Striker
Chelsea have been one of the busiest clubs during the summer transfer window. Roman Abramovich seems determined to build on last season's Champions League success, & the fans have seen one player after another being welcomed to Stamford Bridge. With the transfer window set to close on 31st August, many fans are expecting one more signing (the general expectation being that we will sign another striker). But do we really need another striker? Here are 4 reasons why I think Chelsea don't need to sign another striker :-
