Victor Moses is yet another name Chelsea have been linked with in this transfer window. For those who don't know Victor Moses is Wigan's prised asset and has been labelled as one of the reasons that Wigan continue to maitain their place in the Premier League. Chelsea are one of the many to be linked with Moses but if reports are to be believed we are in deep negotiations with Moses and Wigan. It is reported that we have had a bid around the 4 million pound mark rejected as it did not meet Wigan's evaluation of Moses. Wigan's stubborn owner Dave Whelan refuses to sell for less than 12 million pounds and Chelsea are yet to decide whether they will bid that much. But is he Worth it?
Victor Moses aged 21 plays for Wigan Athletic. The Nigerian started his professional Career at Crystal Palace in 2007 scoring 11 goals in 58 appearances. He made his debut in The Championship on the 6th of November 2007 away from home against Cardiff. In the Palace first team Moses settled down well, scoring 3 times in his first season. In the close season Moses committed his future to Palace, signing a four-year contract to take him through until 2012 but the following season failed to ever really get going however, and despite a sustained period of starting matches he only managed to score twice. In the 2009-10 season Moses was on a hot run at the start of the season scoring 5 in 8 games. Wigan Bought him for 2.5million£ on the last day of the January Transfer Window after Palace went into administration. He made his debut on 6 February 2010 as a substitute against Sunderland in a 1–1 draw. Moses scored his first goal for Wigan against Hull CIty. Moses then in the 2011-12 season established himself as the key man on the pitch for Wigan's survival scoring 6 goals and providing 6 assists for the season. His most impressive performance coming in the game that would have decided Wigan's fate for the next season against Newcastle. Moses scored twice in the space of 3 minutes as Wigan yet again stayed in the top flight after demolising Newcastle 4-0.
If Moses did come to Chelsea where would he fit in. Presumably he would be the right winger in the 4-2-3-1 formation. But Moses is not an out and out winger and didn't we just spend 8 million of the German winger Marko Marin. Marin Stats are better and more consistant. Marin best season included 7 goals and 14 assists while Moses best season was 6 goals and 6 assists. Marin's worst season was 1 goal and 6 assists and Moses worst season for Wigan was 1 goal and 3 assists. Marin also until this last year where he was struck by injury had never had less than 10 assists in a season. Marin is also tested in European Competitions.
Final Opinion: Moses is a great prospect but we just brought Marin and for the Price of 12 million that Wigan are asking for I dont think he is worth it. Roman is better off spending big on an out and out star winger. If Moses came for around the 4 million pound mark which we previously offered I would take him in a heartbeat because he would be a great addition to the squad but at the moment there are other options available that would suit the team better.
