Robbie Aiming For Super Cup Success

Robbie Aiming For Super Cup Success
Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has made it perfectly clear that Chelsea are set on winning the UEFA Super Cup, & are taking the competition very seriously.

"We are happy we are going into the Super Cup final with three wins and everybody fit and hopefully we can win another international trophy for this football club," he said.

"(I will take it) very seriously. It is not a friendly. It is a European trophy that we want to win, not be resting people (for)."  (Source: SportingLife)

Chelsea are coming off 3 consecutive Premier League victories, with new boy Eden Hazard having been particularly impressive so far. Chelsea have an almost full-strength squad available for the match. While captain John Terry will be forced to sit out of the match through suspension that he picked up after his red card against Barcelona in last season's Champions League semi-finals, everyone else is available for selection, including Chelsea's new signings Victor Moses & Cesar Azpilicueta.

Di Matteo may be stating the obvious here, but he's right to put it out in the open that Chelsea want to compete for & win every trophy that we possibly can. While it's true that the UEFA Super Cup is simply a one-off match that has been derided at times, it is still a positive sign for the club & the fans that Roberto Di Matteo wants to win as many trophies as he possibly can. It shows that he is not willing to rest on his laurels, which is a good sign for the future. And so what if it is simply a one-off match that is played between the winners of the Champions League & Europa League & has no actual bearing on how a club's season may turn out? I know I'd love another European trophy in our trophy cabinet, & I'm sure Chelsea fans will agree with me. So come Friday, expectations from Chelsea will definitely be high. But we've won trophies before. We can win them again.
