Transfer Window : To Buy or Not To Buy

Transfer Window : To Buy or Not To Buy
The transfer market is not yet over and Chelsea are still rumoured to be interested in several targets including Hulk, Azpilicueta, Cavani, Moses and Neymar. A busy transfer market has seen more signings than departures, so far. However, the question still remains... should Chelsea buy any more players this window?

Let's look at the potential arrivals that Chelsea are most linked with :-

Hulk: Hulk has been talked about ever since Villas Boas began his regime. He's certainly a talent, but he does come at a heavy price tag. The exact figures Porto are talking are not known but mostly range from £30m-£45m. Hulk can score amazing goals and can have great performances in games, however Hulk's price tag can't be justified by the performances he produces, because the price is too high. He does skill and talent, but a similar target can be found for much cheaper. Verdict: No.

Cesar Azpilicueta: The young Spanish right back currently at Marseille. He is reported to be under £10m, Chelsea are reported to have made a bid around £7m. He is a skilled defender, who is strong both offensively & defensively. His relatively cheap price tag is attractive, & we need to strengthen the depth of our back 4. We can't rely on Ivanovic to play 50+ matches at RB. We do already have a RB other than Ivanovic and that's Sam Hutchinson. Azpilicueta is similar to Hutchinson, but he has experience in the CL and has become a target for the Spanish national team. He can be £7-10m well spent, surely. Verdict: Get him.

Victor Moses: The Wigan' man's agent reportedly wants him at Chelsea. Chelsea have been rumoured to launch a few bids that do not match Dave Whelan's appraisal. He has PL experience and can score some crucial goals while having decent performances throughout the season. He, like Azpilicueta, would come in under £10m. A cheap price tag for a talented winger that could add well needed depth to the right side. Moses is a target to look at because he is not selfish, is cheap, delivers good performances while being a humble man. He has risen through the ranks of Wigan and become a favorite at the DW while grabbing attention of clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and United. The man is good for the money and should be heavily considered by Gourlay. Verdict: Go after him, but spend £9m or less.

Edinson Cavani: Cavani is a hot target in Europe attracting the attention of PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea. Napoli's chairman is rumoured to want £70m, but would split it in half to sell to Di Matteo. Cavani is undoubtedly an unbelievable striker and a very skillful player that could push Torres away from the XI, eventually. Cavani's arrival would put us at 3 strikers; Sturridge, Torres and him. This would be ideal depth for us up top. The price of Cavani is a bit too high, but other strikers that are class are tough to find for that money. He must be pursued heavily, if we plan on retaining a few trophies. He is the ideal target and could solve our striker troubles if Torres misfires. Verdict: Go after him.

Neymar: The Brazilian sensation that has the world at its feet. He wows crowds with his lovely footwork, but frustrates many with his selfish attitude & massive ego. Santos' chairman doesn't plan on Neymar leaving until after 2014 meaning that Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona would have to wait on the Brazilian star. Whether him staying until 2014 is true or not, we must seriously consider if he's the type of player we want to bring in. He is a skilled player, yes but his attitude is one that isn't the best in tough situations which will come no matter what. He is young and his tendency to do things on his own are also big problems. These problems reflected in Daniel Sturridge's season last year. He wasn't necessarily a team player all the time. His own interests came before the team's interests. Many would love him at Chelsea, put his potentially high price tag and problems push him away. He might be the hottest target, but he isn't the type of target that we need to bring in. Verdict: No.

These targets have been linked with Chelsea and are skilled players, but some don't fit the direction the club is taking and some don't fit the money budget. Others fit the criteria that I believe are essential in bringing in new players this window. Who do you think we should bring in? Do let us know, we would love to hear from you.

  1. Cavani, moses and cesar should get us going in trophies if we manage to sign them. We need quality players and must spend a lot to reach or catch up the level with these manchester teams this season otherwise.

  2. Cavani moses and cesar would b perfect

  3. Don't agree at all with this article, actually. Moses just isn't the sort of player we want, he'd be below Ramires and Sturridge in the pecking order.

Cavani's goals tally is good, but...no. Buying Cavani would have the same effect on Torres as Drogba did, if not worse. However, if we go for Hulk or Neymar, or even Andre Schurrle, I'd be much happier with them than Cavani. They aren't out-and-out strikers, and usually play in the 3 behind Torres. Hence, they could play with Torres, but with Cavani it would be one or the other. But they can all, certainly, play up front, if needed.

Plus, Neymar and Hulk provide all sorts of non-football money-making prospects. Neymar is a global superstar, and the most marketable athlete in the world while Hulk is huge in Asia and South America. And there's the obvious "Hulk" merchandise that can be cheaply mass-produced and sold for huge profits. Cavani, on the other hand, wouldn't provide anything like as many potential money-making avenues, and also wouldn't sell nearly as many shirts as Neymar or Hulk. In short, Neymar or Hulk (or both) would really have to boost the image of the club.

Finally, rant over. I do agree that Azpi is an excellent right, and for his age, £7m or £8m is a great deal. Lukasz Piszczek and Kyle Walker are better players than Azpi, but they'd cost about twice as much. Neither Spurs nor Dortmund would sell at a reasonable price, but Marseille will.

As a footnote, I'd also love Jose Callejon from Real Madrid. He's a proven goalscorer in La Liga and the Champions League, is very young, lightning-fast and wouldn't cost much. So Azpi, Neymar/Hulk and Callejon for me.

We only have 2 strikers.. we need 1 and why not go for quality in Cavani and that should be torres to work harder for his spot.

    2. Put another striker and Torres will never play as fine as with Pool or Atletico.
We need a winger, that CAN play as striker only in extreme situations, such as Torres being injured or booked.
Cavani woll no accept bench, that is for sure, while Hulk would, besides, Hulk would play WITH TORRES.
Mata-Hazard-Hulk should be the 3 line behind The Kid

    3. If Cavani signs for Chelsea, Torres will never play in starting XI, Chelsea needs a winger that can play as striker in replacement for Torres and that's all Chelsea needs. Cesar Azpilicueta would be a good signin' he is defensive and can play offensive. Love you Torres <3

  4. With moses, cavani or shurrlle and aspillicueta, we'll be garanteed of at least the champion's league or the EPL title. I just hope....!

  5. moses, cesar and cavani. Summer transfer closed. Swap kakuta 4 cesar, cavani 4 raul plus 22m

  6. Hulk, azpilicueta and moses will give us the depth we really need. Hulk can play anyway as a forward left, right or in the centre and this will also give torres a chance to score goals

  7. well said mate, never liked the way we are moving after hulk , cavani is the ideal target, perfect replacement for THE KING, he is fast, strong and very precise in what he does and would fit well in premier league. Moses, m a bit confused about why do we need so many attacking midfielders/ wingers. Literally speaking we are currently flooded with those type of players. Hazard, marin, mata, oscar and Piazon ( if he gets chance this year) and of course Ramires. So, good buy if he comes pretty cheap but not necessary one. Cezar azpilicueta is must. desperately need a right back and a good one. Ivanovic is not fast enough. and finally Neymar bring him if u get him under 10 million. more than that would be worthless. Thats the price we are going to have to sell him as he bound to be epic flop in BPL.

    Cavani - yes
HUlk - absolutely no (yes if he comes for about 15 million)
Moses _ yes if comes cheap
    Cezar - mustsign him
and Neymar - would be waste of money

  8. I think toress has come to stay @ chelsea wheither cavani or hulk toress is still going to set the d ball rolling he had more than this @ liverpool yet he proved himself, just get. Cavani, moses ans ceasar that's all will nEed then u use cavani to pair toress upp front

  9. I think Azpi., Moses, Schurrle are the best options. Signing Neymar will be a very big waste of money(except with a price as low as 15m), Edinson is a good player but we need to give Nando a playing time, we don't need the services of Hulk cos we already have the likes of Marin, Oscar, Hazard, Mata, Ramirez and others from the accademy waiting to impress.

    1. Azpi and Hulk. Chelsea don't need moses with hulk and azpi we can play a 4-2-1-3.
Defense: Cole Terry Luiz and Azpi
      Standing Mid: Lampard Ramires
      Attacking Mid: Hazard.
      Forward: Mata Torres Hulk

  10. I think Cavani might nt click @ Chelsea he's as proven as Hulk, that said Hulk is too expensive. Bt i would like Moses bcos he's cheap and has Epl experince, Ceasar wil also florish and is cheap plus hes stil young. Finally i think we could go for Mardrid Callejoñ this kid has done good with the team.

  11. Lmao! Neymar at 15mil or less than 10mil? You people must be joking. Why are you people suddenly looking at 3 players? What we need is a player who can play 2 positions,a versatile forward to play striker and right winger. Will Cavani fit this? No,absolutely not. He has no exelleration and a very high top speed to play as a winger when needed in that position. Shürlle will be better suited for us. The right back position is no brainer, azpilicueta gets the nod from me. If I should choose 3 players like all of you do,I'd go for a midfield general. Someone like Schweinsteiger is perfect or maybe Javi Martinez. Sell Meireles and Mr Slug Mikel to make this happen.

We're all entitled to our opinions, mate.. I'm just trying to vocalize my points in this article, if you don't agree.. let me know, I love hearing other peoples opinions! :).. Cavani has quality in the position that we need depth in.. we don't need more midfielders, because we have 7+ there. Essien, Mikel, Romeu, Marin, Mata, Hazard, Lamps, Meireles and (on loan) De Bruyne are all our options there. Javi Martinez is too expensive, 40million pounds (rumoured) and Schewinsteiger is quality, but I'm afraid the price will be very high and we need to start paying attention to the Fair Financial Play thing that has started. Don't need to penalized for heavy spending when the position is covered. Cheers.

  12. Would actually prefer Moses Cuz he can cope with d EPL while the other wingers adapt. Hulk is not needed cuz a winger is no longer a high priority. Azpilicueta and Cavani would be good but I can manage Schurrle since the forward is on a medium priority. So let us round up with Moses, Azpilicueta and Schurrle. Outlay on transfer fee and wages should be relatively low. Come on FFP!

  15. if you look at a hulk v cavani video you would understand who is better suited for chelsea. People say hulk is selfish but he has double digits assist for many of the previous season plus many long range goals. I think he is stronger and faster but it seems that cavani always comes good in the big games i.e last years champ league with more than 6 goals v city milan and chelsea, not so sure about hulk in that department but who knows. I like cavanis effort on defense. I think both are going to sign for chelsea this summer window because of the financial fairplay and chelsea's desire to repeat plus rvp signing for united. chelsea for the quintuplet of not 6 remaining trophy(carling cup possible loss)

  16. Hulk for me is a better choice! He can play both as a Winger and as a CF if necessary. Cavani can't provide us with such option! I hear ppl complaing abt the cost of Hulk. Hulk is gona cost Chelsea £38M but with proper talk, he can go for £33M while Napoli are requesting for £35M for Cavani who insists on £150,000 a week, that's an amount Hulk wouldn't demand for! Hulk can't request for more than £120,000 per week! Beta stil get a Schurrel who can provide the Wing option and as well a CF option! bt for me, Cavani is not an option! Apz is a most sign.

  17. Azpi and Hulk are the best options.
Forget about price tag... Hulk is the crack that we need, both in the field and in the stores.

  18. I think . chelsea should go for Moses, Ceaser and Hulk as I can't see Cavani fitting in well with Torres and cavani wold not want to seat on the bench

  19. These are all valid options, but there are others, such as Ba as a striker, a good utility player central or on the right.

  20. there seems to be a mass exodus at tottenham, how about a good solid right back?

  21. In the position of a central striker, why not consider Pato, has played this position earlier in his career, he seems to have fallen off everyones radar, I feel he just needs regular play and some confidence
