Queens Park Rangers v/s Chelsea Preview: More than just a derby

Queens Park Rangers v/s Chelsea Preview: More than just a derby
Chelsea travel to Loftus Road on Saturday looking to continue their 100% record in the Barclays Premier League as they take on a QPR side lying deep in the relegation zone with just 1 point from a possible 9.

It’s been 2 weeks since Chelsea registered their third Premier League win in three games, but that victory against Newcastle looks to have come ages ago. Such can be the effect of the International break. The last time Chelsea were in action they were humiliated by Atletico Madrid and Radamel Falcao. Roberto Di Matteo will be hoping that his players can bounce back after the embarrassing defeat in the Super Cup.

QPR on the other hand have had a dreadful start to their Premier League campaign conceding 9 goals in three games and scoring only twice. Just like Chelsea, QPR have also been extremely active in the transfer window signing players like Park Ji Sung, Esteban Granero, Julio Cesar and the likes of Fabio on loan from Man United. Understandably this QPR side needs time to settle in with all the new faces. Ranger’s manager Mark Hughes will be hoping that his side get the better of the league leaders and finally kick start their campaign.

Torres tormented QPR with 3 goals!
The last time these 2 sides met Chelsea thrashed QPR 6-1 at Stamford Bridge with Fernando Torres scoring a hattrick. Though the last time these 2 sides met at Loftus Road in the league it was a completely different game with Ranger’s getting the better of 9 men Chelsea by the slightest of margins. But that game is basically remembered for what went on after the game between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand.

Chelsea Team News and Lineup:

Team News:  Roberto Di Matteo reports that John Terry and Ashley Cole have recovered from injury and should be available for QPR game.  Di Matteo also confirmed that Mata has returned from his break but he has yet to decide if tomorrow’s game comes too early. Mata definitely back for Juve game and winger Marko Marin is fit but will play for the Under-21s tonight to get his match fitness levels up.

QPR Team News and lineup:

Team News: Ranger’s boss Mark Hughes has a full strength side to choose from with the only missing player being Samba Diakhite who has flown back to France due to some personal problems. Hughes could hand home league debuts to Julio Cesar, Ryan Nelsen, Stephane Mbia and Esteban Granero. Ex- Chelsea player Jose Bosingwa could also feature against his former club.

STATS:
  1. Chelsea have won just two of 17 top-flight games at Loftus Road.
  2. Four of the last five meetings between the two clubs in all competitions have ended 1-0.
  3. QPR have failed to win any of their opening three matches of a Premier League season for the first time.
  4. Mark Hughes’s side have conceded nine goals in their first three games – more than any other side in the division.
  5. Fernando Torres is in line to make his 50th Premier League appearance for Chelsea and has so far scored nine goals. He scored 33 goals in his first 50 Premier League games for Liverpool.
  6. Roberto Di Matteo’s side are without a win in their last seven away games against fellow London clubs – a run that stretches back to a 3-1 win at West Ham on 11 September 2010.
