With the Capital One Cup resuming this week, this match is definitely one to watch out for. It's unusual for a match between 2 major teams to take place so early in the tournament. However, such is the luck of the draw....
The match will definitely be a high-tension one, considering the circumstances that the match is being played in. Just recently, the two teams met in the Premier League and while United came out on top, the match will be remembered mostly for Mark Clattenburg's shocking decisions that saw 2 Chelsea players get sent off and an offside goal for United allowed to stand. The offside goal was the winner, which only added to the sense of injustice surrounding the match. Chelsea fans are dubbing this match a "revenge" match. While I don't think this match is a revenge match, a win would do us a world of good.
Anyhow, back to the matter at hand. Both teams will see this match as an opportunity to give some of their not-so-regular starters a little bit of game time (that's always the case with Capital One Cup matches). United will definitely look to rest one or two key players with a tough fixture against Arsenal coming up this Saturday. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that the match will be any less exciting to watch, given both teams attacking options. On the other hand, Chelsea have players like Victor Moses, Marko Marin (who has just returned from injury), Lucas Piazon and even Oriol Romeu just waiting for a chance to shine.
Key stats:
1) United have won their last 5 matches that they have played (in all competitions). In comparison, Chelsea have won 3 and lost 2 of the last 5 matches they played.
2) Chelsea scored 6 goals against Wolves in their last match in the League Cup, all of which were scored by different players.
Predicted line-up: Cech; Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill, Bertrand; Romeu, Ramires; Moses, Mata, Marin; Sturrdige.
