Reaction: Walk In The Park |
Regarding the performance in general, Robbie seemed happy. "I thought it was excellent. We played some fantastic football, created a lot of chances and maybe could have scored a couple more.
Every team makes it difficult for you. They are fighting for points and so are we, and after we went 1-0 down it was crucial to get the equaliser quickly. From there we never looked back and scored the second and third in the first half.
We have a philosophy we are aiming to play and at the moment the team is in healthy form, we are creating lots of chances and scoring lots of goals, with different goalscorers. It's a team that's in good shape.
I think we're just pleased that we go into this international break top of the Barclays Premier League."
John Terry and Ashley Cole were in the news all week, but Di Matteo was pleased with the experienced pair. "I think the results are telling us we are able to blank things out surrounding us externally and we can focus on our aim and target and job to win football games. It shows how professional the group is."
He did reveal that the club will take some form of action against Ashley Cole for his tweet about the FA. "We've got a social media policy in the club and there will be disciplinary action. That's how we will leave it. I did speak to Ashley, but that's a private conversation. You saw his reaction yesterday, he apologised unreservedly."
Everyone thought that Chelsea would be able to beat Norwich comfortably and in the end, that proved to be the case. But Chelsea got off to a shaky start when Grant Holt struck to give Norwich a shock lead. Nevertheless, Chelsea did well to fight back and eventually win 4-1. Di Matteo wasn't taking the match lightly and fielded a strong XI which eventually proved to be too much for Norwich to handle. The Canaries are yet to register a win this season and didn't look like beating Chelsea at all, despite taking an early lead. The explosive combination of Mata-Oscar-Hazard led the Norwich defence a merry dance at times. However, Chelsea were denied 3 clear penalties during the match. This is something that has happened before this season and I never really mentioned it. But 3 blatant penalties being denied in a single game is a lot. While I cannot criticize the performance of any Chelsea player (all of them put in a decent shift today) most of us are beginning to question the referees decision-making abilities, especially considering how other clubs are awarded penalties for challenges that eventually turn out to be dives. But all in all, the victory was a well-deserved one and will ensure that Chelsea remain top of the table going into the international break.
