Match Report: Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

Match Report: Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea
Roberto Di Matteo made only one change to the team that beat Stoke last week with John Terry replacing Gary Cahill in defence.

Chelsea XI: Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Mikel; Mata, Oscar, Hazard; Torres.

Cazorla, Arsenal's most exciting signing this season started off with a shot that was well over. Ramires was then caught in possession by Diaby and the big Arsenal man shot well but it was straight at Cech. Sadly for Arsenal, Diaby had to be replaced early in the first half as he was struggling. In the 19th minute, Hazard was brought down by Vermaelan and Torres found the back of the net for his 3rd Premier League goal of the season when he slotted home from the resulting free-kick. Torres had the chance to make it 2-0 minutes later but seemed to miss his shot altogether, although Chelsea players were quick to appeal for a penalty. Chelsea dominated for most of the first half, but Gervinho equalized for Arsenal 3 minutes before half-time. It stayed that way and Chelsea went into the break having dominated most of the match but not having a lead to show for all their possession.

Arsenal kicked off the second half looking for a goal that would give them the lead. Luiz was booked for diving inside the penalty area after the referee rightly saw that no contact had been made. However, it was Chelsea who took the lead. Torres won a free-kick after getting past Vermaelan and being brought down. The resulting free-kick from Mata was a good one and a slight touch from Koscielny resulted in an own goal and a 2-1 lead for Chelsea. After this goal, Chelsea chose to sit back and defend. Cech made a couple of brilliant saves from Podolski and a deflected effort from Giroud (who came on for Podolski later on). Victor Moses nearly sealed it for Chelsea but volleyed over. Olivier Giroud then missed the chance of the match when he rounded Cech perfectly but somehow managed to find the side-netting. Chelsea were eventually able to hold on and win the game, ensuring another week on top of the table.
