Romelu Lukaku : A mere possibility or a desperate need?

Romelu Lukaku has scored 3 goals in 18 appearances for West Bromwich Albion from which only 10 appearances have been starts. Many fans have called on Di Matteo to bring back the highly rated Belgian to the Bridge to solve our striker dilemma, instead of splashing the dough on Radamel Falcao.

He could be recalled in the January transfer window. Now the question we must answer here is that is it a need or a possibility. To me it will only be a possibility. Lukaku is a very strong built player who has a similar playing style to that of Drogba. Getting him to adapt to the playing style of Mata, Oscar and Hazard will be very difficult. Torres had done a good job with it and Falcao can as he also has characteristics that can make him adapt.

Romelu, the beast or 'The Kraken', the latter of which I heard away at Wolves on a cold winters day last season. Chants of "Unleash The Kraken" were somewhat optimistic about Romelu's chances of turning a somewhat dismal season around, a season that took a turn for the better just a month later down the road at the Hawthorns when AVB's noose tightened to break point around his managerial neck. Our well publicized hunt for 'the next Drogba' was well met by Chelsea fans, a resignation to the fact that one day in the near future we would need someone to replace one of our greatest servants.

Days after our Champions League success that reality was placed upon us in a not all shocking manner but still a tough concept to take. Unfortunately for Romelu, a lack of game time owing to a lack of trust by AVB has seen him fall behind in his predicted development to a world class powerhouse centre forward. It is not a secret that he was unhappy with last season and I do not think anyone can blame him given the severe drought in opportunities given to him. The U.S tour gave him the perfect platform in which to propel himself above Sturridge who has been away on Olympic duty. Match 1 and all was looking good, two beautifully taken goals and a performance that sent shivers up the spines of our closest rivals. The games did not provide us with such jubilance though and some poor performances in possibly the greatest opportunity a young player will get seemed to lay the path for an imminent although temporary departure from Stamford Bridge.

Loan deals are one of the most common methods used by big clubs to provide quality game-time to their younger players. Many players go through atleast one, sometimes even 2 or 3 loan spells before they become regulars at their club.
