Romelu Lukaku : A mere possibility or a desperate need?

Romelu Lukaku has scored 3 goals in 18 appearances for West Bromwich Albion from which only 10 appearances have been starts. Many fans have called on Di Matteo to bring back the highly rated Belgian to the Bridge to solve our striker dilemma, instead of splashing the dough on Radamel Falcao.

He could be recalled in the January transfer window. Now the question we must answer here is that is it a need or a possibility. To me it will only be a possibility. Lukaku is a very strong built player who has a similar playing style to that of Drogba. Getting him to adapt to the playing style of Mata, Oscar and Hazard will be very difficult. Torres had done a good job with it and Falcao can as he also has characteristics that can make him adapt.

The prospect of bringing in Lukaku could pan out in two major ways. One he plays so well that he benches Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge. The other is that he is not upto the mark and is overlooked when it comes to Torres and Sturridge. The first way would cause a huge morale damage to Torres and Sturridge whereas the second way would make Lukaku unhappy.

Now Lukaku moved to West Brom only because he was unhappy with the way Chelsea were dealing with him and Steve Clarke confirmed that the Belgian was happier with the Hawthorns. Moreover is still right to give up on Torres?

Torres has as of now scored more goals than Rooney. Rooney and Torres are similar players as they work really hard for their team, create chances and stick to the tactical approach of their managers. The only loopholes from Falcao's transfer would be that will he able to get his head straight and work hard for the team?

Think it this way, Falcao might be able to score from absolutely anywhere but when he enters the Cobham training ground, he has to learn Di Matteo's tactical approach and if he doesn't follow it, then the entire team suffers. This one of the main reasons why I think we should stick with Torres this season and bring Lukaku back.

Lukaku might not be happy with the time given but with Di Matteo's brilliant man-management skills we can give it a go. How ashamed would someone be if we let Torres go and he suddenly gets his form back and starts banging in goals, left and right?

At the start of the season, we had no expectations of winning the title and now suddenly when we have realized it we have increased our demands. Keep with Torres and have Lukaku and Sturridge as our back-up options. We should wait until the end of season to think about moving for Falcao.

  1. Ever since Abramovich took over the club, we have always had aspirations to win tittles. Comparing Torres to Rooney is inappropriate because Rooney is a 10 and Torres is a 9. If you really think Torres and Ronnie are the same then we don't need Torres. We already have three 10's.

    1. Nope. I said similar not same. Torres is a no 9, no 10, no 11, and a no 17 and the same goes for Hazard, Oscar and Mata when you look at it tactically. Rooney starts from deep, Torres drops deep. Why do we have 14 different scorers? Torres works hard, which goes unnoticed to the naked eye, much like Mikel but we do need a good striker who can finish when needed and Lukaku is a possibility.

    2. I disagree sherry .I am clear about this lukaku is not ripe and far from it too.I can't understand scoring three goals iss not an enough reason for him to be ready top fill that gap infront of our mazacar squad. Am sure RDM shares similar opinion.the guy is not there yet.and I can't see the sign bruv!

    3. i disagree too. comparing torres with rooney at this time of moment is unimaginable. imagine rooney playing for us in front of MAZASCAR, we would have been sitting top of the table comfortably. it is very clear we can not rely on torres anymore. he has had his chances. he has not taken them and looks unlikely that he will ever.
talking about falcao, that he will take time to adapt. i again disagrre. he is world class and players like those take less time then others. look at van persie at man u....

  2. I think Falcao is our solution, the idea of having Lukaku as our option be may or may not work out, but I believe with Falcao we can

  3. Hi sherry I am sorry I can't read this article because I have been monitoring lukaku and I must say he is not a convincing strker.b. Who scouted lukaku? Because for me when I assess his play touches on the ball flicks (if does nay?) I am sorry he is poor for chelsea.it is one of two things only if he learns fast which I don't see it coming even after one year loan.or he is Sold to west brom(first right of refusal). Am lukaku is not good enoughj for chelsea. If chelsea says he is supposed to be our new drogba am not sure thbe ey are correct. Now am not trying to erratic but its clear he is far from being ripe to lead our attack.

    1. I haven't done any kind off scouting of him but from what I've heard, West Brom are surviving on how Lukaku plays !

    2. he comes of the bench for them... only had a couple of starts for west brom. shane long is doing a decent job for them.

watching lukaku and seeing what aston villa have bought in another belgian in Christian Benteke. he looks some player. he is much better the lukaku.

  5. Pls I stand to be corrected but I haven't seen any man-management approach used by RDM,if this approach really exist at least we have witnessed more rotation of players rather than listing a player on sentiments. Also I realised the players lack stamina & are easily contained. The bottom line now is that we need falcao so that we forge ahead a as club

    1. The man-management approach includes how he kept Terry and Lamaprd in his side. AVB's man-management skills were very poor, which resulted in the senior players revolting and he getting the sack. Winning the FA Cup and UCL was mainly down to his excellent man-management skills.

  7. Torres and falcao can play together. We just need falcao

  8. RDM's man management has been relatively poor. His inability to get everyone involved and match fit has been shocking. Lately, he has been forced to utilise Azpilicueta and Betrand which is good but you don't have to be forced to rotate ur players. Our season was disrupted after RDM decided to use the same key players for Manu match in the EPL, League Cup and then against Swansea in the EPL before Shakter in the CL all within a short space of time. Players like Marin, Paizon, Romeu would not be match fit until he is forced to use them which would not end up good.

  9. Week aftr week we see da chelsea matches and torres play... I agree wth da comparison of rooney and torres as they havnt scored like their old selfs bt worked hard as team players. The hard work put in is always apreciated bt da problem wth chelsea is we need someone like van persie as well coz rooney works hard fr manu so does torres bt we dont hav a striker lke van persie who has come to manu's rescue every single tym. What i really like is he hasnt even started each game like torres and has made this impact. So tohav a chance at winning anything we need falcoa. If we still believe lukaku is da answer we are kiddin' ourselves
