Match Preview: Chelsea vs. Liverpool

Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge this Sunday. The Blues will be keen to maintain their solid start to the season while Liverpool will be looking for a much-needed victory in what is sure to be an exciting clash.

On current League form, one can say that Chelsea will win this match. From 10 matches, Chelsea have won 7, drawn 2 and lost only 1 match so far this season. On the other hand, Liverpool's form has been dismal. From 10 matches, they have won 2, drawn 5 and lost 3. Both teams have had contrasting starts to their respective seasons. While Chelsea's new style of play has earned them plaudits, Liverpool are still adapting to manager Brendan Rodgers philosophy and despite a few decent displays, the results have not gone their way. All this considered, it should be a comfortable win for Chelsea, right? Ah, if only it were that simple...

Chelsea may have the home advantage, but the last time Chelsea managed to beat Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League was 3 years ago. The last 6 times the two clubs have met in all competitions, Liverpool have emerged victorious 5 times (Chelsea's sole victory against the Anfield side in this clash was in last season's FA Cup final). Liverpool have done the League double over Chelsea 3 times in the last 4 seasons. It's almost as if Liverpool up their game against Chelsea.

Both teams will be desperate for the win. Chelsea's draw against Swansea last week saw the Londoners slip from the top of the table and the Blues will be desperate not to lose further ground to title rivals. Liverpool currently sit 12th in the Premier League and will want to beat Chelsea just to prove that they are no pushovers.

Key players: Luis Suarez (Liverpool), Oscar dos Santos (Chelsea)

Key stats:-
1) In John Terry’s absence (he was serving a 4-match ban for being found guilty of an FA charge), Chelsea have conceded 12 goals in 5 matches in all competitions.

2) Liverpool are looking for a 5th straight victory against Chelsea in the English Premier League.
Predicted XI: Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Mikel; Mata, Oscar, Hazard; Torres.

  1. Cole will be absent xo betrand on. I prefer struridge to torres.

  2. This should be an easy victory for Chelsea if Torres turns up and we create and take our chances (unlike we did in the Swansea game). In my opinion, Sturridge or Moses would be better as starters in the starting role. My only fear is if we can cope with Suarez' trickery and Sterling's pace. Suarez tends to drift out right and I see Bertrand suffering. But I think our midfield 5 should be too much for Liverpool. 3 (Mata, Torres, Hazard) - 1 (Suarez) is my predicted scoreline.

  3. I'll prefer Moses as a starter instead of Torres.Coz Torres has never proved himself against his former team!

    1. Are you retarded? He was one of the most feared strikers in world football. Liverpool absolutely adored him.

    1. Do you think RDM can understand what even supporters can see? Rdm will be sacked by december if he continues like that.

  5. Finally, Torres gradually leads us down the table.

  6. Let us face it, we accuse Liverpool of holding on to history, but we do the same with Torres. Hypocrisy.
