Willian linked to Chelsea... AGAIN?

Ah, the transfer window never ceases to amaze. The stories that float around during this busy time of the year can often range from good, bad to patently ridiculous. Of course, it gets hard to separate stories that have some substance behind them from the stories that are utter nonsense. Some stories are such that you can easily make out that they are nothing more than rumours (Dimitar Berbatov to Barcelona was one such story). Some appear likely, yet end up not happening. "Willian to Chelsea" can be considered one such story.

Willian: Chelsea Bound?

It seemed logical enough. Chelsea's wingers were off the mark for most of last season, forcing Di Matteo to push Ramires into a wider role. Ramires surpassed expectations playing as a winger, but it was clear to all that this would only be a temporary solution (the signing of Marko Marin & Eden Hazard further proved that). But with Saloman Kalou having joined Lille & Florent Malouda looking likely to leave Chelsea as well, the need for another winger seems all the more important.

The Willain stories died down eventually (despite our need for a winger), & Chelsea were linked to players like Hulk & André Schürrle. But negotiations with Porto for the transfer of Hulk seemed to have hit a deadlock, with both parties unable to agree on a transfer fee. Bayer Leverkusen also seem highly unlikely to part with André Schürrle, who has "committed his future to the club" according to club sources. With neither Hulk nor Schürrle looking likely to sign, Willian was linked to Chelsea once again.

It's not hard to believe that Chelsea would want him. At 23, he still has a long way to go in his career. He's fast, tricky & versatile. He can play either as an attacking midfielder or on the wings (he's played on the right side of midfield throughout his career at Shakhtar Donetsk). Shakhtar would be willing to listen to offers around the £21M region.

The entire story could be nothing more than a concocted rumour. But it would be very good  if we did indeed manage to secure his signature.

  1. you rejected oscar, and giving a go to willian.

rejected oscar, not for the lack of talent but saying chelsea dont need him. he and willian both play as attacking midfielder and on right midfield. so why you giving willian a go after rejecting oscar.

personally i think oscar has more talent then willian. am not saying he will have more success but he is more talented.

  2. according to sky news Chelsea has agreed fee of $25m for oscar. one RB and a supporting CF will make Chelsea a team to beat.

  5. We don't need Willian, Oscar is okay, so get us good rightback and HULK for supporting striker.
