A Strategic Look At Chelsea's Group |
Juventus
Juventus are the current champions of Italy. They went undefeated throughout last season, dominating their opponents en route to winning Serie A. Juventus are a team that play an intense style of football that is largely down to a midfield which is both dominating and creative. They are known to line up in a 3-5-2 formation that uses attacking wing-backs. As a team they have no major weaknesses as such and their squad is definitely one that can challenge for the Champions League. The only weakness I can point out for Juventus is that they are having a few off-field issues. Juve's head coach Antonio Conte is currently serving a 10-month ban due to a match-fixing investigation & this could affect the team.
Shakhtar Donetsk
Shakhtar Donetsk are no strangers to Champions League football. Experience is key when competing at this level and Shakhtar certainly aren't lacking any. They play a very technical style of football that is backed up with an attacking prowess. The fact that they have dynamic players like Willian in their squad only adds to their attack. They are also a defensively solid unit with players like Darijo Srna leading the back-line. Their one major weakness is the fact that they may not be much of a threat away from home. The fact that they will have to travel long distances for all away games probably won't help either. They do have the ability to pull off an upset though, so they must not be taken lightly.
Nordsjaelland
They may be the current champions of Denmark, but FC Nordsjaelland are definitely the weakest team in Group E. Calling them underdogs would be an understatement. This is their first time playing Champions League football. They earned plaudits last season en route to winning the Danish league and are known to play an attacking brand of football. Although they aren't expected to make the last 16 of the Champions League, Nordsjaelland could upset the apple cart a bit, especially considering the fact that expectations from them aren't sky high to begin with. But while I expect Chelsea to give them due respect for the fact that they made the Champions League, I don't think Chelsea should have too much difficulty beating them.

We are the European CHAMPIONS, very experienced in European football. The group is a tricky one no doubt. But at the end of it all, we ll come out tops i trust.
ReplyDeleteD old lady's r nt a threat. We ll win on a landslide.but RDM should start Oscar,Moses n Ramires should be redeployed to d midfielD. Cech , Ivanovic , Terry , Cahil , Cole , Ramires , Romeo, Hazard , Moses ,Oscar , Sturidge. Bench - Luiz , Superlative Lampard ,Mikel, Torres , Mata , Cezar A. Ktbffh
ReplyDeletethe group is trick but not for chelsea
ReplyDeleteI know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I beg to differ with the above comments, especially the latter two. The Old Lady's midfield dominated England in the Euros. It was only preseason but we lost to AC Milan,a team that can't keep up with Juventus in the Serie A. They have a dangerous deep laying playmaker in Pirlo. We lack a solid midfield so don't think we are way better than they are. In the final third we might look better on paper but 80% of attacks start from a good midfield in football.
ReplyDeleteAllah bless the womb that brought fort true fan unlike some hypocrites.
Deletewhatever it is, lets retain this trophy
ReplyDeleteWe got a brilliant Brazilian on the bench (Oscar)!! but RDM is prepared to play Lampard and Bertrand out of position.!! would Lampard or Bertrand make the Brazil national football team. The national football team do not give the number 10 shirt and position to any player. Oscar who plays it Fantastically but still RDM will not drop or bench underperforming players. Just give the boy a chance torres would benefit from it to.! How long must we wait for are £25million Wonderkid to do his Thing. Di matteo will start to annoy me if he's just going to play Oscar only in the CAPITAL ONE CUP or shit games. Oscar needs and deserve more to become better in the Premier League and a key player for us. Sorry to say it but Lampard needs to step Aside soon.!! Someone step aside for Lampard when he frist came to Chelsea.
