Chelsea Target Everton's Dynamo

Chelsea Target Everton's Dynamo
With the departures of Essien and Raul Meireles, it is pretty clear that Chelsea are in the hunt for a good central midfielder who can perform consistently week in and week out. In the past couple of days goal.com, The Daily Mail and many other English and Belgian sources have linked Chelsea with Marouane Fellaini.

Reports suggest that Chelsea are now stepping up their interest in Everton's midfielder Marouane Fellaini and a bid looks likely in the January transfer window especially after Fellaini expressing this desire to leave and David Moyes declaring him available for transfer "for the right price".

Player Profile :

Name: Marouane Fellaini-Bakkioui
Age: 24
Place of birth: EtterbeekBelgium
Current club: Everton #25

Well we all know that Chelsea lack options in central midfield after the departures of Essien and Meireles. Lampard is not getting any younger and faster and Mikel is now starting to get consistent but is a bit slow and not that attack minded and creative.

Chelsea are also looking for a long term replacement for Lampard and I think Fellaini could be a very good player to replace him in the bigger picture. He is fast, creative, physical & strong and the perfect kind of player that Chelsea need in that role.
He could be deployed right behind a host of bright attacking players like Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Moses and would surely help the team attack and fill that defensive hole as well. He certainly has the eye for a pass and his physical attributies are pretty good as well. He is a good header of the ball and can go past people with his strength and power.

In the opening game of the 2012–13 Premier League season against Manchester United, Fellaini received plaudits for his outstanding performance, As he scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory. He scored again in the following game, a 3-1 win away against Aston Villa.

He moved to England to join Everton. At Everton he was the club's Young Player of the Season for 2008–09.

The Blues have an array of attacking options in the form of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata, Ramires, Victor Moses and Marko Marin, but Roberto Di Matteo wants someone who can sit in behind them. The west London outfit have targeted the £25 million-rated Belgium international as doubts grow over the effectiveness of the club's current central midfield options.
Roberto Di Matteo is favouring a 4-2-3-1 formation at the moment but he does not see John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard as the future and wants Fellaini on board to fill one of the roles.

Fellaini revealed during the international break that this could be his final season at Goodison Park, claiming: “in January or at the end of the season I will turn to another club or championship."

The versatile midfielder signed a new five-year contract last November but is concerned about whether his ambitions can be met at Goodison Park.

In Di Matteo’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system, Lampard and Mikel have started together in three of Chelsea’s four Premier League games, as well as in the one-off Community Shield and Super Cup fixtures.

But Lampard turned 34 in June and is in the final year of his contracts and is not regarded as a long-term option in the centre, while Mikel has yet to prove that he can be a consistent performer.

Fellaini has been in great form for Everton recently and has put up solid performances week in and week out!

The Belgian has operated off the main striker this season in an attacking midfield role but has generally been used by David Moyes as a midfield anchorman.

“I won't say there's no chance in the next window because everybody is available throughout the world if the offer is right,” the Scot said. “But one thing I know is the transfer window is closed so he's not going anywhere right now.”

Well as of now we can only keep staying in touch with all these reports and rumours and  see what happens. For me he would be an amazing signing for Chelsea but in football you never know anything so keeping that in mind I'd only like to say KTBFFH!

Do let me know what you think about Fellaini and all these rumours, etc!

  1. He will be a very good signing but I think we don't need to sign anymore. We have McEachran, Oscar, Romeu. We can develop them to fit the bill. Signing new means hindering their development.

  2. We need him to play behind d brilliant attackers n moreover Mikel might probably be heading for AFCON in January. McEachran still remains one of our future commited stars , Oscar ll play 10 perfectly cos that's one of his favorite position. RDM pls give Sturidge more playing time he is a talented player ktbffh.

  3. Yea, looking at the up coming African cup of Nations early next year. Mikel ll probably be going away. So some how, we need him. But lets bear it in mind that we have some young up coming players in that position in players like Romeu, Jush and Oscar.

  4. I really don't see to sign him. There is a Josh MacEachran, Kevin de Bryne not to mention the piazon. If Mikel goes for the AFCON: the highest hew will be out is a month. So, these young lad can easily fill his position till he returns. Signing Fellaini will cost us these lad, that need playing time to develop.
I know my write-up may not count, as I'm not RA.
RDM, should develop these guys. We've more than enough mid-fielders. Kenechi-Lagos; Nigeria.

  6. Not sure how good this would be, actually. I don't think there would be much difference between Mikel-Lampard and Mikel-Fellaini, other than perhaps 1)age 2)physicality and 3)set pieces, none of which are especially important.

When deployed in a double pivot postion, which he usually does for Belgium, Marouane Fellaini plays very much like Lampard, bombing forward too much, leaving Axel Witsel isolated and exposed to counter-attacks, but popping up with the odd goal himself.

So if we do sign Fellaini, we need a Regista to play alongside him. Just as we need a Regista to play alongside Mikel. Therefore, we must do one of these things:
    1) Buy ourselves a top quality Regista. Yohan Cabaye springs to mind. At the end of the season, Nuri Sahin could be an option. Sergio Busquets might even be surplus to requirements at Barcelona, with the vast array of midfielders they have. However, it looks more likely that Fabregas will be sold. He is also a possibility.
    2) Convert Oscar to a Regista. He has all the attributes to excel there, but he is a better Trequartista than Regista.
    3) Play McEachran as a Regista. He is very young, has exceptional long passing ability for his age, and has had rave reviews at Middlesbrough. And I believe his loan deal there expires on January 2, though I might be wrong.
    4) Throw Charly Musonda in at the deep end. Terrifying prospect, but exciting!

To conclude, Marouane Fellaini is an excellent player, a good passer (though not good enough), very strong, a decent tackler and shooter and as good a target man as there is anywhere. His first touch is sublime, he has good vision and can pick out a pass. And he'd raise our tally to 9 Belgians, close to a full team!

But I still don't think he'd fit in well at Chelsea, unless we make some drastic changes, as I outlined. I'd much rather go for Cesc Fabregas than Marouane Fellaini. Now that would something special!

This is a deal that could well happen, but I honestly hope it doesn't.

  7. He is very good player can perform in both way attack or defense with effective condition , our midfield want this style of player can give the efect without a lot of creative touch yes he play the easy and logic pass and movement with our without the ball . now we are with a lot high talented play makers and the wise move is Fellaini

  8. RDM is so arrogant that even if we buy him, he will still continue to play with Mikel. Did you see this player yesterday against juventus? This player is awful!

  9. Yes Mikel made a mistake that eventually cost us the win. But Terry was also at fault and has been guilty of making mistakes in the past. That doesn't make him awful. Most Chelsea coaches have kept faith in Mikel and feel he is still relevant to the team so this hate campaign against Mikel doesn't make sense. Stats don't lie and Despite his occasional mistakes he is still one of the better players at Chelsea.

We have enough people to cover this problem and we don't need this guy. Another point to take into consideration is our changing style and the need to become as compliant as possible to the new FFP laws.

Our great youth drive over the last transfer window was worth it, we don't have to purchase much in the way of cover for any position. We can focus on developing a brilliant academy to develop our own players, instead of pilaging from other teamslike we always do.

Josh and Kevin are two perfect replacements that we sent out on loan. They can fill this void. A ramires and romeou partnership would also be worth a try before any new purchases.

Let's stop wasting money and use the resources we have.
