Official: Raul Meireles joins Fenerbahce

Official: Raul Meireles joins Fenerbahce
Raul Meireles has joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a 4 year-contract. A fee has not been revealed but reports say the deal could be worth around £8 million

Chelsea FC confirmed the deal recently after Fenerbahce confirmed that they were in talks with Chelsea over Meireles.

This was the statement on Chelsea's Official website,
Raul Meireles has today joined Fenerbahçe on a permanent transfer.
The move was completed before the close of the Turkish transfer window later this week.
Meireles joined Chelsea on transfer deadline day last August and made his debut away at Sunderland, assisting a Daniel Sturridge goal with a long through-ball.
The Portuguese international's ability to play in a variety of roles in midfield meant he was regularly deployed by both Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto Di Matteo, starting 37 games last season and coming on in a further eight matches.
He scored six goals including important long-range strikes in Di Matteo's first game in charge at Birmingham in an FA Cup replay, and at home to Benfica that sealed a Champions League quarter-final win when the team was under pressure.
He was a second-half sub during the FA Cup Final victory over Liverpool but missed the Champions League Final due to suspension having played the whole of the semi-final versus Barcelona.
This season, prior to his transfer, the 29-year-old started one match and was a sub on two occasions. In total he made 38+10 appearances.
Chelsea Football Club thanks Raul for the part he played in such an historic and successful year, and wishes him well at his new club.
He joins a Fenerbahçe squad containing former Chelsea winger Miroslav Stoch plus ex-Premier League players Joseph Yobo and Dirk Kuyt.

I really think that Meireles should have stayed at Chelsea for atleast another year.

This deal for me makes no sense at all specially at this time, after sending Essien on loan, etc. Raul Meireles would have been very important for Chelsea this season because to win silverware like we did last season we need a perfect balance between youth and experience and after most of our experienced players leaving like Drogba, Kalou and Bosingwa, Meireles would add alot of experience and give us plenty of options in the midfield.

Goodbye Raul Meireles!
On the other hand, this move could open the door for the likes of Josh, Piazon, Oscar and Romeu.

Chelsea FC 360 would like to wish his all the very best of luck for Fenerbahce and we hope that he wins alot of silverware with the Turkish giants.

  1. I really loved Meireles and ontop of that,I have a really bad feeling about his move away. With all these experienced players moving on,some on loan,I suspect the board and Uncle Roman won't be breathing down on RDM's neck for trophies this season. I simply just don't see this squad challenging for silverware at all. We should just stick to parking the bus and counter attack even against lesser teams because with our current holding mids,we can't control and dominate games. I hope they prove me wrong.

  2. This is a bad move,we are trying to be more of Arsenal & Barca than the strength of defense we used to be.I fear this season, cos truthfully we are good when it comes to attack but from what I've seen we are going to have problem from the DM. Luiz will be good there, the problem is that at time he forget that he is a defender first. Well let wait till January.
