Reaction: 2 Points Dropped

Reaction: 2 Points Dropped
QPR vs. Chelsea was a match that was full of controversy right before kick-off (Anton Ferdinand indeed refused to shake John Terry's hand) but the hype ended there. The match wasn't dull, & both teams created chances but neither teams could take any of those chances and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Summary

Chelsea started the half well, almost creating 2 chances in a span of 3 minutes. A corner was won by Bertrand & Terry came close to giving Chelsea the lead but didn't connect with the header. Eden Hazard then came close to scoring off a Ramires low pass but didn't quite catch it as he would have liked & Julio Cesar made a simple save. The match ebbed & flowed thereafter, but Chelsea had 2 certain penalties turned down in the first half itself. First John Terry was brought to ground by Ryan Nelsen when a Chelsea free-kick  was played into the area. Later, Eden Hazard was brought down by Onuoha after Hazard left him behind while on a blistering run, but Andre Marriner didn't award a penalty. 0-0 at the end of the first half.

The beginning of the second half saw QPR dominate the game more, although they didn't create an awful lot of chances to begin with. Park came close from a header, but the attempt was a wasteful one. Victor Moses was handed his Chelsea debut when he replaced Bertrand in the 58th minute. Chelsea were looking slightly better now, but a poor finish from Ivanovic & some poor play from Torres meant that Chelsea couldn't break the deadlock. The game ebbed & flowed again, but Chelsea should have sealed the game in the 88th minute. Moses passed to Hazard, who was unmarked, but the Belgian blazed his effort over. Chelsea & QPR both came close again, but the game ended 0-0.

Robbie's Reaction

Di Matteo was happy with how the game went, & felt that all that was missing was the goal. "The only disappointment was we didn't score the goal with the chances we created because all in all, the performance was very good.

Playing at Loftus Road is always difficult because of the history and the rivalry of the clubs. We controlled the game very well, we created a number of chances and it was just the goal that was missing. One goal would have probably been enough for us to win the game.

I am not concerned because we created chances. It is the first game we haven't scored, we normally do, and we will continue to do so if we create chances."

He also thought that we deserved a penalty in the first half. "The one with JT and Nelsen looked a stonewall penalty to me. I have watched the replay. I know the ref doesn't have the replay and I don't know if he didn't see it or saw it and didn't think it was.

'The one on Hazard he was in a good position for and there was some contact but maybe he didn't think it was enough. It is a difficult job to be a referee. It is easy for us because we have the replays."

Despite Robbie being happy with the performance in general, there are issues that need to be addressed. Chelsea didn't look as sharp in the attacking third, & quite a bit of it was down to Torres. The Spaniard didn't really have a good day today, but he wasn't the only reason we looked toothless upfront. The line-up seemed almost defensive-minded. Why Robbie would choose to use Bertrand on the left wing when we had Moses on the bench is baffling. Bertrand has impressed many Chelsea fans with his performances on the wings, but he is a left-back at the end of the day. He does provide that added cover on the flank, but that's the type of cover needed against teams like Barcelona not QPR. It would have made more sense to start Sturridge-Hazard-Moses as the trio behind Torres. QPR were shown too much respect. And while we did create chances, the fact that we didn't score is a bit of a cause for concern. Torres' reaction when he was subbed was uncalled for. Whether he was frustrated at being subbed or at his performance in general (it could even be a combination of both) is unclear but he should have handled himself better. All said and done, work needs to be done before Chelsea face Juventus in the Champions League.

  1. Why oscar is not in the line up. Remember he is a Brazil no 10. How could RDM benched him after a performance of 3 assist and a goal in national team jersey...

  2. RDM didn't want to concede and I'm sure he didn't want to score either. The tactics was uncalled for, maybe better fitted for Ath Madrid but not QPR. And Torres is a very sick striker, completely different from what he used to be. Sturidge did better up front holding up the ball and ensuring that we had an attacking flow, Fernando was the reverse. We must sell him and bring in falcao. Torres whines too much and talks of through balls all the time as if.

    1. Plastic fan. It suprises me how you can judge RDM's tactics. I'm not defending Torres but saying he's a sick striker is taking it too far. Infact, you must take into consideration the squad's drastic change in players and playing style-TRANSITION. Are you seriously expecting too much this early? Be serious please. It's early days so don't let the good form in the first three games fool you. This squad has to serious gel first and a playing style has to be identified.

    3. Don't be blinded by your love for Torres, all strikers have what is expected from them and Torres does none most times, even Drogba do not dislike through balls n if not for his age, he would have been integrated into the new system. We are not asking too much but just for him to hold up the ball and give his team mate a chance. Hope you do watch other strikers. And talking of drastic change, I don't really see any, what I see are a few players gradually been introduced and an old player refusing to settle.

  3. playing Bertrand on the left wing against QPR??? RDM gat to be kidding me... that guy is a left full back for heaven's sake and he does better there. why Mr RDM keep playing him in that position when we have loads of talented wingers is a complete misery to me. why buy really offensive wingers and place them on bench only to bring a LB to do the work of LW..,,??.. God help my beloveth chelsea.

    1. Playing Betrand there was a waste of our defensive ability/tactics. With such tactics, even if QPR were playing with 22 men, the score line would have been 0:0. RDM was wrong not to have been adventurous against a team that are yet to blend together.

  4. I said it but no body listen to me.
We can not trust torres on our attack for season long, he has not show any sign of his former playin days at liver pool.
I prefer we play sturridge or even moses on the attack instead of playin torres.
What's the use of buyin offensive players when you want to bench them? We spent millions of pounds bringin these guy together and you dont play them instead we play a LB on a LW. That's a serious joke RDM must b up to something or better still find the right tatics for our nest match.
If I say RMD is not a great coach I knw you all will be very mad at me but let's wiat till the end and find out about this.
