Real Madrid sign Michael Essien on Loan

Real  Madrid have signed Michael Essien on a season long loan deal. It was speculated that Essien would go on loan, but many thought his destination would be Chelsea's London rivals, Arsenal.

Essien will be reunited with his former boss, Jose Mourinho, at Real Madrid.

Essien's career was affected heavily by injuring his anterior cruciate ligament while on International Duty with Ghana. , which allowed John Obi Mikel to get the starting role as Chelsea's Defensive Midfielder. Essien only made 14 appearances last season for the Blues.

Essien will undoubtedly be relishing the prospect of getting his rejuvenating his career at Real Madrid, but will  be facing stern challenges from Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira who have been Real Madrid's regular starters under Jose Mourinho.
