Chelsea's potential January targets

With just over a month and a half to go until the January transfer window swings open, the rumours are beginning to start about who Chelsea will look to sign. There have been many names mentioned over since the transfer window, with some more likely than others. Here I'll access some of the potential targets, and how likely they are to happen in January.

Radamel Falcao - 75%

Here is a man who's name has been on Chelsea fan's lips since the summer transfer window closed, with many feeling that we should have made more of an effort to sign him. It's been reported that when AVB was at Chelsea, he wanted to sign Falcao when he was at Porto having both him and Torres competing for the position upfront. Falcao is unbelievable form for Atletico Madrid, and has all the traits of a striker who is world class. Good with both feet, great strength, decent at heading, and most importantly he only requires a half chance to score. With Torres being Chelsea's only real out and out striker, a move for Falcao looks very likely, with the only question mark being whether Torres will move the other way.

Theo Walcott - 50%

This is one that I'm really not sure on. It's very clear that Walcott wants to leave Arsenal, due to the fact that he's not getting the opportunities he wants up front. Forced to play on the wing, when really he wants to play in the mould of Thierry Henry, it seems only a matter of time until Walcott leaves, with his unwillingness to sign a new contract at Arsenal. Walcott's options would be limited if he did want to leave Arsenal, with Manchester United's strikeforce already full along with Manchester City. Liverpool have talked about being interested, but Theo wants to play in the Champions League so this would be unlikely. So that would leave only 2 choices for Walcott. Either stay at Arsenal and play out wide, or he could come to Chelsea. If the price is right, Chelsea may well snap him up, with Walcott showing at times he can be deadly when played up top. He would be a lot cheaper than Falcao in terms of a striking option, he'd also be English, but this would also mean that Sturridge would leave. It remains to be seen how this one plays out.

Marouane Fellaini - 40%

With Lampard's career seemingly drawing to a close, and Chelsea's options in midfield proving to be thin, Fellaini could be an option for Chelsea. Fellaini has been in great form for Everton this year, proving to be unplayable at times, but this has brought interest from other clubs who can attract Fellaini with Champions League football. This is a deal however that I'm not sure will be done, and there's a few reasons for that. If Chelsea were to go for Fellaini, he would no doubt play up front on occasions, or in a deep position. This presents a dilemma. Do Chelsea really want to go back to lofting the ball up long, which would be a throwback to the Drogba days? I don't think so. He may be a good squad player to have, or plan B player, but I wouldn't spend £20 million+ on him. Also, not to mention the fact that Chelsea have Josh McEachran on loan at the moment, who's in great form. Next year I'm sure he'll be back in the squad, competing for one of the two deep lying positions. Don't hold your breath on this deal happening.

Neymar - 25%

Quite a few Chelsea fans have entertained the idea that Neymar may well leave Santos in January, or indeed in the following transfer window. I'm not convinced for one. I think that Neymar will be in Brazil until after the World Cup in 2014, solely for the fact that he feels his development is still ongoing in Brazil. Every top club is after Neymar, with their being rumours that Barcelona have already struck up a deal, but this may be a bit premature. Neymar has already said that Oscar has tried to convince him to sign for Chelsea, so this is a positive sign. But, the fact is that Neymar would cost the best part of £40 million+ to acquire, and then would have to be thrown straight in to the squad with no grasp of English. I'm not buying this one. Don't expect Neymar to leave at least until next summer, if not the summer of 2014.

David Villa - 15%

This is a name that's been thrown around, especially with the way Chelsea have played football this season. For Spain, when Villa was fit, he was the final piece of the jigsaw, and helped lead them to the Euro 08 and World Cup 10. This is a player that could help rejuvenate Torres, and would fit into our system very well. A small player, with a great eye for goal, Villa would be a dangerous player to have. But, he is 30 coming up to 31. At a time when Chelsea are looking to lower the age of the squad, I don't see them shelling out a lot on a striker who they're not going to get many years out of. Although he would be good for this new system, I'm not buying this one at all.

So there you have it. A lot of these targets are exciting, attacking players who would add something to this Chelsea squad. We know that Chelsea need another striker in January, but who do you think Chelsea we sign? Comment below geezers!

  2. Villa? Nah I doubt it,too old. Fellaini I don't know but looking at how Chelsea play at the moment,he could be that final piece in the puzzle. Chelsea likes to spread the ball out wide to the right back recently to swing in a cross. His heading ability could be good but at a cost, dropping one of the MAZACAR trio. Reports suggest he will cost Chelsea around the 30 million so I highly doubt we'll pay that much for a midfielder while the striking department is in need of an extra body. The only player I'd pick out of the lot is Neymar because of his versatility, work rate and flair but is also unlikely . We'll just have to see what happens.

  4. I really doubt we will get Neymar or Falcao, pricing is just insane on those two. How about Schrulle or Remy as striker targets, althought i would rather have the german over the frenchie and day.

  5. I think we would get Falcao as there is a big loop hole in our striking options compared to other top teams in Europe. Besides, you don't want a European competitor laying their hands on such a weapon that is most deadly against us. I guess the news of City approaching Falcao commands more fear to the hearts of men than Torres does to opposition defenders. Anyway, we are the ones who need him. If we can't get him, then we should get Dzeko. Either way, Mancity are confused.

  6. so i was on goal.com a few minutes ago and there in black and white is the Falcao story (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/11/13/3522460/chelsea-close-in-on-falcao-swoop-after-opening-talks-over)

so all you falcao lover's will probably be very happy at this prospect, not that i'm complaining mind you, but you must consider what this will mean for the chelsea team on all fronts.

    1. MARKETTABILITY
Falcao is a brand yes, but Torres is a MEGA-BRAND. Falcao will have to be a goal scoring machine! He has to do the Drogba transformation, go from just a player to a fully fledged marketting product. He could help chelsea break into the south american market along with Oscar.

    2. GOALS GOALS GOALS
This man will have to do what Torres is failing to do at the moment, score more goals than anyone else! He wont have to be the focal point of all our goals, we have the luxury of a team that can score from anywhere, but he'll have to be the man who can break stubborn teams and score when needed. He will have to be our new MR WEMBLEY!

    3. The Fate of Lukaku and Sturridge
These two potential legends of the bridge will have to settle for playing second fiddle to Falcao. If he delivers on his promises of goals, they have to consider playing on the wings or behind him as options. I doubt that he'll want to be rotated that much.

This could be the final piece of the puzzle for the team, a strong front man who can operate in the air and on the ground. Who can hold up the ball or go solo if he has to. Who can strike it from range or tap it in. This will also mean the departure of Nando, maybe a return to Atletico will be good for him. But we will see.

  9. I was wondering if a player like Wilfried Bony from Vitesse could do the trick? He's only 23 years old and has scored amazingle 17 goals in just 21 games for Vitesse.

  10. Falcao as simple as that since we have the money. What else are we waiting for? We better sign him in january before it becomes late. Falcao anyday, anytime and any moment he can score.

    3. we dont need Fellaini

  12. The only players chelsea need right now are Fellani and Falcao. Why Fellani? Lampard is on the way out by january or summer. Oriol is not good enough so will be loaned in january and Mikel is going to african cup in january. This means that we have only Ramires in Central Midfield. We cannot rely on Josh McEachran or Oriol. Fellani will play in central mildfield. This is what we are looking for (or can change position with Oscar). And in front Falcao, trust me, no one can beat us. The PL will be won by the club who will take Fellani. If we take Falcao, useless Torres must be sent back to madrid.

  13. I think no matter what the cost, Chelsea should sign Falcao and sell Torres. Maybe Falcao can be exchanged with Torres+money. Then we should sell Sturridge as the manager doesn't want to play him often. Di Matteo should sign players in whom he has faith..Maybe we need to sign another cheap striker as well. There has been talk of Wilfred Bony or Demba Ba...none of them would cost more than 8-9m pounds. So, finally at the end of January transfer window if we see Falcao 9 on Chelsea shirt..we can hope of the Barclays premier league..That's where we are lacking...we got a decent defense..a brilliant midfield..and the clinical strikeforce would make us most dangerous team of the world.

  15. Finishing is an Art. When u see those who posses it, u immediately recognise it. When u see those who lost it, u know. "Get me the ball close to the goal, ill do the rest" are the words of a natural finisher.

  16. i tink it would be among neymar, falcao and villa only 1 striker would be sillected....we've all ready brought mosses...what would we do with wallcoat?? we have romeu, obi mikel n ramires....fellaini....would not be a bad selection...but i think we better need a central defender....

  17. Nando's not comin bak 2his best any time soon so let's make a straight swap wif Falcao.... Wen Neymar decides 2move 2 Europe We should get him so dat we can tel Barca nd Real dat dey re not d only Team dat can make The Squad of d Greats and we can win 6 Champz in a role...lol... Fellaini is ok if Lamps move on and Mikel wil be representin Nigeria in Nxt yr's Afcon... I don't like Oscar 2be moved bak 2 d centre mid cuz as some has bin sayin, he's more dangerous 4our opposition wen he play behind d Striker.... Walcott No! Villa No! He could be anoda Nando.... KTBFFH!

  18. I THINK CFC DON'T NEED THE A CENTRAL MIDDLEFIELD AT THE MOMENT CONSIDERING THE ON LOAN LADS.
THE PROBLEM TODAY IS TO IMPROVE THE STRICKING FORCES, ON MY OWN FALCAO IS THE BEST CHOICE OTHERWISE BRING BACK RUKAKU OR WAIT FOR THE TIME AND CHOICE OF NEYMAR.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I woukd love the idea oc signing neymar but if that's the case, we need to separate tge mazacar trio. Bad idea this. Falcao seems best choice for chelsea, but I doubt athletico would just give him away
Even if it's a 75 mil transfer. Here again, crash and burn. Best possible choice would be walcott. But we should try for falcao anyway.
