Tactical Analysis: Chelsea 1 - 1 Liverpool

The European Champions were stuttering once again as Liverpool once again turned up well against the present big teams. A dodgy formation which was used against Anzhi was announced prior to kick-off and it kept everyone buzzing for the game to start. The draw now means that Chelsea are 3 points off the top of the table.

Skrtel was once again absent and this ensured that Brendan Rodgers had to stick with his 3-5-2. The 3-5-2 ensured that Liverpool had most of the possession against a team that did not like to press high and were willing to sit back and defend.

Di Matteo had a trick up his sleeve though. By ensuring Hazard and Mata with defensive duties , Chelsea had 2 banks of four players who would press one by one at the Liverpool players who had possession.

This meant that Chelsea were well organized and Liverpool could play around as much as they wanted but when it came to breaking through and creating a chance, they just could not. Only a corner could help them. This mean that Eden Hazard created more chances than the entire Liverpool team.

When Suso came on Rodgers switched back to 4-2-3-1 which was why Suso spent a lot of time talking to his manager before coming on for Sahin. This helped them penetrate more with Gerrard putting in terrific through balls while MOTM Enrique putting in a terrific performance in the flanks.

Chelsea still need a striker but more or arguably equally importantly Chelsea need a player who can change the tempo at will. This is why Modric was desperately needed. If not him we could even go for Fernandinho who played brilliantly against us. McEachran is another player but we will have to wait.

The bringing on of Victor Moses ensured that Chelsea could not dominate possession for long as Oscar's removal threatened us deeply. This shows how Chelsea played against Swansea when Moses was deployed at the right -

Come on Chelsea !

  1. Gud analysis sherry, but i think marin should hav been givn a chance ystrdy instead of daniel sturidge with moses playing as a striker, d midfield wuld hav bn balanced and we would have 3-natural dribblers in mata, hazard nd marin. But we had a great game bt i still fear d trio of MAZACAR may experience a burn-out soon. KTBFFH

  3. Marin who had a wonderful pre-season and is fit wasn't given a chance what a shame. Tactical changes were poor. Sturridge wasn't a good addition and Torres and Oscar should have stayed a little longer bse they caused tension to Liverpool defence. Why is Moses playing a Cameo role and yet RDM knows how disturbing he was always to our defence and the whole EPL?
