Reaction: Must Take Chances

An equaliser from Luis Suarez ensured that Liverpool left the Bridge with a point after Chelsea took the lead from a John Terry header in the first half. The match saw Chelsea dominate for large periods of the game, yet the Blues failed to make their possession count.

Robbie's Reaction

Di Matteo conceded that we needed another goal to kill the game. "It was crucial for us to get the second goal to finish the game off. We are still playing well, still creating chances, we just need to be more clinical."

However, he firmly believes that the team is still in contention to win the title. "We are in much better shape than previous seasons and we are still in the mix (to win)"

When asked about John Terry's injury, he said, "We'll have to wait til tomorrow to understand how bad John Terry's injury is." However, Robbie did say that Cole will be available for the match against West Brom. "I hope and expect Ashley Cole to be available for the next game"

Chelsea dominated the game for large periods. The Blues looked like scoring every time someone went on a run. Then how exactly did we manage to drop 2 points against Liverpool? The answer: we didn't take our chances. Despite not creating a lot of chances, we created some good chances. Oscar missed a one-on-one early on in the match and Mata also skyed one towards the end of the first half. Assuming we took even one of those chances,we would have comfortably seen off Liverpool. There is nothing else I can fault about our performance. We looked good on the ball and solid at the back, and Liverpool almost had no answer to our creative play. But we didn't score enough and thats what hurt us. With a tough run of fixtures coming up (we play City in the League 2 weeks from now and a tough trip to Turin awaits us in the Champions League), Chelsea must avoid being wasteful in front of goal. Liverpool aren't the strongest of teams so they couldn't quite punish us. Other teams might not be so generous.

  1. chelsea were dreadful today. i think it all came down to poor decision making in terms of tackling the season with 2 strikers.one who has never looked capable of reclaiming his lost glory, and the other who has never really been given a real look in......smh

  3. Shayne. RDM should get a better game plan. We should be carving out way more chances with all those flair players in the final third. It sickens me to see the ball always going wide to the fullback. These guys should be playing through the middle and in behind the defense. But hey,we all expected that the team must first gel. I just hope this isn't the master game plan.

  4. Let us face it, we accuse Liverpool of holding on to history, but we do the same with Torres. Hypocrisy.

  5. Torres is not the only problem we have. The taem is not playing 2 attack, they are just playing 2 dominate ball possesion. They should learn 2 attack the oponent box 18.

  6. You people should know that when a team has one and only style of play or formation. It ll be easy for teams to read and capitalise on your weakness and close down your area of strength. We need to have different game plans and tactics to be able to open UP teams. From Arthur Osadebe

  7. we seem to struggle with teams which play the 3-5-2 formation.it was man city in the charity shield, then with juventus, in the 2 legs with shakhtar donetsk whose 4-2-3-1 quickly turns into 3-5-2 with the overlapping Razvan Rat and darjio srna, and now liverpool adopts the same strategy and gives us problems.mark my words man city in 2 weeks will play that system and may just win at the bridge.RDM has got to work on alternate formations or variations of the 4-2-3-1 like shakhtar does.
