Match Report: Chelsea 1 - 1 Liverpool

Another late equalizer from Luiz Suarez ensure that the defending European Champions once again dropped two points and began sending out signals of a famous winter slump. The draw means Chelsea are now 3 points off the top of the table.

First half -

Oscar found himself through on goal after Eden Hazard put him through after a brilliant counter-attacking move but the Brazilian pounded it over.

Chelsea then got their first corner after Torres won it. Mata swung it in to the near post and found Terry who finished it with class in the 20th minute.

10 minutes before half time , Terry attempted to tackle on Luis Suarez who tripped on the captain's leg. Images show a horrific scene as Terry's knee looked like it almost snapped in half. Gary Cahill came on for him as the fans looked down-hearted too see Terry nod a "no" to Roberto Di Matteo.

Second half -

Chelsea were still stuttering in possession whereas Liverpool had some long spells but when it came to creating chances Chelsea dominated. Torres's header was parried away by the keeper and on an another day that would have been a terrific goal.

Liverpool brought on Suso for Sahin. Mikel turned into an AMF as he nearly scored via a Mata cross. Suso's substitution was key as his corner resulted in Suarez scoring from close range after being flicked by veteran Carragher.

Liverpool were then on defending fiercely and RDM brought on Moses for Oscar and Sturridge for Torres. Cech then saved Chelsea after keeping MOTM Enrique's shot out.

Come on Chelsea !

  1. Moses should start in place of Torres. This player takes chelsea down. We cannot expect anything from him. To hear RDM says that he plays well at Chelsea TV, it is unbelievable!

    1. I'd say you don't know shit about football. Read the game better please mate. Chelsea looks great when they pass the ball but with no end result. You constantly see it being taken wide. I've never seen defense splitting passes in the game and to be quite frank with you,non whatsoever in the season. We play a stupid game to be honest. Mids go and crowd the box after the ball was spread wide, then it's always crossing. Now tell me something. What are the chances that a Chelsea player will get a head or a volley onto it? Less than 50% mate because the opposition already has lots of bodies back from all that passing build up play from us. What we need to do is get behind the defense or just play straight through the middle quickly. We have the type of talent to play Torres through but that isn't happening. Put Torres in the Spain starting eleven now and you'll see what I mean.

    2. Sorry dude but it is you who don't know football. Torres always allows himself to get marked out when our creative players try to pick him out, its almost like he's hiding.

    3. I don't see him hiding. If you knew football you'd notice the build up play is slow and it never comes through the middle. Strikers rely on momentum and confidence during a match. How do you expect Torres to score with such minimal chances and lack of proper service? I'll say it again. The build up looks pretty and eye catching but with no end result. It's like Barcelona. You can pass the ball all day long but if you can't create clear chances from all that possession then you might as well give the ball back to the opposition. Do you know why Barcelona is the best team in the world? Because they use the possession to draw out defenders and play it through the middle or in behind the defense. Swinging in crosses will get you nowhere with all these small attackers in Chelsea's final third. Ps. I play football.

    4. Watch our play carefully, whenever our creative players are with the ball at the final third, the look up to Torres to see if they can release him, but he does little to free himself quickly, break the offside trap and to be played through so after a little delay, they have to pass to another person. I said this before, it gets harder when our midfielder's and defenders can't push up to help out on options. Later, we concentrated on the flanks because Liverpool had three centre backs who where hiding Torres, but delivery was not very good and we couldn't attack the crosses properly. The only times Torres could link was when he comes inside but instead of dribble a little, and play a one two, he tries to dribble everybody and looses the ball. The truth is we cannot afford a striker like Torres.

  2. Torres was disappointing. With our playing style, we dominated them and had more chances of sealing victory by a wide margin. RDM we need a finisher in January and not a striker like Torres. Its so painful that I can't still sleep. These guys brings us joy or sorrow, depending on the final result of the game. The question I wud like to ask, when would Torres score against his former club? We need Falcoa in January, remember, Chelsea always experience a dip in winter and the players ought to start performing beyond their best. The Manchester Clubs have started dominating and we cannot afford to loose points going further.

  4. Let us face it, we accuse Liverpool of holding on to history, but we do the same with Torres. Hypocrisy.

  5. Liverpool sold us a little bit of history, and we bought into the idea. Sure bets; Torres won't score, champions league qualification on the edge, EPL slipping away, we've not won any trophy we embarked upon so don't hope too much on the Club World Cup. We are at the same level with Swansea, Liverpool and Arsenal unless we get real strikers.

  7. Common guys get a grip of yourselves... a draw and everyone is blaming one particular player..btw i am no huge fan of torres but the run he makes are good. He has lost his finishing touch but u cant fault him for not trying and hiding. he is our striker intil janaury atleast and if u have noticed he gives his best for the team even when its not working for him.. so stop whining and keep the faith. KTBFFH.

  8. To put it simple for those who don't understand, we need a killer of games. They are mostly strikers who play on top of the team. Some say it is one game, lol, This has started a long time and it is showing no signs of ending soon.

  9. As for Torres, he likes doing stuff that I wouldn't dare on consoles. He's not adventurous but unrealistic. He already knows the limit of his abilities so he should stop punishing us because we paid £50M for him. He should just keep it short and simple and score us goals.
