Don't take rumours as facts this summer!

It may just be since the invention of twitter, or maybe it's come from the tabloid papers, but I for one am getting sick and tired of Chelsea being linked with different players every single day. Not only is it boring and unimaginative, it's the fact that they seem to state this apparent interest without the slightest hint of a source. Or, in some cases they simply state 'a club insider'. Did the cleaner tell you then? What does that even mean! Then you look at newspaper websites such as the daily mail (fail) who like to link players with different clubs each week, clearly just in order to fill website space. They'll state that a player is close to a move to whoever, and yet the reporter will be 'a daily mail reporter'. It's all just absolute rubbish!

Then you move on to twitter, and the constant talk of transfers, and who's' club is going to sign who. In the case of Chelsea, the fans seem to get excited whenever a player is linked with the club on an unreliable website such as goal.com (horrible website). The point is that fans need to stop taking rumours as facts, as quite frankly I do get quite tired of seeing on my timeline, 'we're definitely getting this guy, he's gonna be so good'. Once it's confirmed on the club's official website, that's when I'll believe it's actually happened.

And another thing, I love how some people are suddenly experts on these players who all play in a number of different leagues. We've been linked with players in the Brazilian league, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, German and the Premier League, and yet it makes me laugh that some people seem to feel as though they are some sort of expert on these players and leagues. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but it's rubbish to say that you've seen a lot of a player if you watch Chelsea in the Premier League every week and other Premier League matches, along with work, eating, sleeping and just general living. It isn't possible! The fact is that most fans get their football knowledge from wikipedia or videos on YouTube, which quite frankly could even make Emile Heskey look good! That's the point in those videos, to show the best parts. But just because those parts are shown, doesn't tell you a lot about them. How often do they track back? Are they team players? Do they have a bad attitude? It's all very well having the apparent ability in a 5 minute clip, but it's a lot different when playing in the toughest league in the world.

Now I don't want to sound like a killjoy here and state that people shouldn't get excited over prospective signings, it's just that when you look back on the summer on the number of players we've been linked with or close to signing, you start to wonder how people can be continually fooled. In Chelsea's case, these are the names I've remembered so far: Dembele, Falcao, Cavani, Lavezzi, Hamsik, Modric, Cabaye, Selassie, Maicon, Jovetic, Fellaini, Hulk, Neymar, Da Silva and I'm sure there's many others. Papers talk rubbish. People on twitter also talk rubbish. These ITK accounts, although sometimes reliable, can't be believed a lot of the time. The sooner that people start to stop believing this drivel, the better in my opinion.
